Education of women in Herzegovina about basic human rights

FENA

MOSTAR, November 5 (FENA) - The Association "Women of BiH" from Mostar will implement a project of educating women and girls on basic human rights in eight local communities, with a focus on marginalized groups in Herzegovina.

The project, under the financial auspices of the Canadian Local Initiatives Fund, will be implemented in Prozor / Rama, Jablanica, Čitluk, Široki Brijeg, Stolac, Neum, Ljubinje and Trebinje.

“The primary problem we want to address with this project is the unfavorable position of women and girls in the mentioned area, as well as the lack of opportunities for their realization of equal human rights compared to men in social and public life of Herzegovina,” said the spokeswoman of the Association "Women of BiH" Arnela Buzaljko.

As she said, the goal of the project is to advocate for respect for human rights and gender equality of women and girls, as well as marginalized groups in Herzegovina, and their empowerment to take an active part in society.

Through this project, she added, they plan to conduct extensive surveys in relevant institutions, as well as among the local population.

“In eight local communities we plan to conduct a large survey where we will give more than 800 questionnaires directly into the hands of women, girls, all those who consider themselves members of vulnerable marginalized groups in our society to anonymously say everything they think about the human rights situation in their local community and in general,” Buzaljko emphasized.

After that, as she said, they will hold workshops in targeted local communities where they will educate selected project beneficiaries about basic human rights, and ways and mechanisms for their implementation.
