SARAJEVO, November 8 (FENA) - A number of people gathered today outside the EU Delegation/Office of the EU Special Representative in Sarajevo to express their concerns about the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Ambassador Sattler and other officials in the EU Delegation/Office of the EU Special Representative had a constructive dialogue with the leaders of the protest.
There was fundamental agreement on many of the issues confronting BiH and its citizens. There was an open and honest discussion on how solutions to these issues can be found. Ambassador Sattler warmly welcomed the engagement of BiH citizens and promised to continue the discussions.
The EU fully supports the rights of citizens to freedom of peaceful assembly and freedom of expression and is working with authorities in BiH in order to align the relevant laws that govern these rights with EU standards.
Dialogue is an essential component of democratic societies, and the EU Delegation/Office of the EU Special Representative regularly engage with representatives of BiH civil society, as today, in order to consult with and listen to citizens with an interest in a more stable and prosperous future in BiH.
Recently, the EU Office launched an innovative process of deliberative democracy – the Citizen’s Assembly, enabling 57 randomly selected BiH citizens to provide input on the important question of constitutional and electoral reform.
During the meeting, Ambassador Sattler underlined the EU's unequivocal commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as the country’s path to the EU, stated the EUD in BiH.
