Working group members talk with European MEPs Strik and Köster

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 12 (FENA) - Chair of the Interdepartmental Working Group for Amendments to the Election Legislation of BiH Alma Čolo and members of the Interdepartmental Working Group Snježana Novaković Bursač and Damir Arnaut talked today with MEPs Tineke Strik from the political group Greens/European Free Alliance and Dietmar Köster from the political group Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, who are visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The members of the Interdepartmental Working Group informed the members of the European Parliament about the current political situation in this BiH and about the tasks of this body in charge of drafting proposals for amendments to the BiH Election Law.

Expressing different views regarding the political crisis and the blockade of the work of BiH institutions, the members of the Interdepartmental Working Group agreed on the need to implement the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.

The statement said that MEPs assessed that the political crisis in BiH has been escalating, stressed the need to establish a constructive dialogue that would lead to the elimination of ethnic divisions, and respect for the rights of all BiH citizens, including the rights of minorities in the country.

They also stressed the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH, and appealed to refrain from making any unilateral moves, which, as they said, could endanger the peace and security of BiH citizens, times and the European Union (EU) countries.

They underlined that the establishment of the rule of law and respect for human rights are the foundation of any prosperous society, especially countries that want to become full members of the EU, reads the statement.
