Komšić: Várhelyi expects further strengthening of BiH institutions

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 24 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić, after a meeting with European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi, said that four important messages had been conveyed at the meeting.

He added that one of them is that the European Union stands behind its European Commission Opinion on BiH and expects an end to the blockade of institutions, not only when it comes to deciding on accepting EU loans, but also on implementing 14 key priorities from the European Commission Opinion.

As an example, Olivér Várhelyi cited the new Public Procurement Act, Komšić added in a statement after the meeting.

The Chairman of the Presidency of BiH pointed out that the second message of the European Commissioner is to expect further strengthening of BiH institutions, and not their weakening, all with the goal of further progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European path.

Olivér Várhelyi also stressed that the Common Regional Market (CRM), for which the EU has provided 30 billion euros, is the basis for economic progress in the entire region, and that the EU does not recommend reducing the capacity of the BiH Armed Forces at this time.

It was emphasized at the meeting, says Komšić, that regional cooperation and the Common Regional Market remain the interest of the region and an irreplaceable factor on BiH's path to the EU, and that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains committed to promoting peace, stability, security and prosperity in the region.
