SARAJEVO, November 26 (FENA) - The Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina was marked last night with a solemn ceremony at the Sarajevo City Hall, organized by the Sarajevo Canton, the City of Sarajevo and the municipalities of the Sarajevo Canton.
Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Željko Komšić, reminded of the importance of November 25, the day of the renewed statehood of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the basic identity determinants of our state.
“That determinant has its different meanings, and those are, I would say, political, institutional and cultural meanings. Although it existed hundreds of years ago in various forms, BiH was first constituted as a state or republic on November 25, 1943. Unlike previous arrangements, the notion of the republic is the notion of modern civil society, that is, the legacy of the great European revolutions. November 25, 1943 is an expression of the maturity of the Bosnian society as a whole,” he emphasized.
As he reminded, almost five decades of the ZAVNOBiH peace have formed numerous state institutions, from political to judicial, security, educational and cultural. The period between 1943 and 1992, he said, was the realization of ZAVNOBiH's ideas.
This period should not be idealized from this time distance, but also, it should not be underestimated, because it is precisely the period in which the republic institutions were built, which were again crucial in the defense against aggression against the Republic of BiH.
The question of the survival of Bosnia and Herzegovina is not, Komšić concludes, only a question of the survival of the state. It is a question of the survival of civilization.
“For those of us who believe in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is not even a question but a matter of dignity that no one can take away from us. And so let’s be proud of what we believe in! Let's be proud of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he stressed.
Mayor of Sarajevo, Benjamina Karić, also reminded of the values of the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the message ‘Bosnia and Herzegovina will exist’.
