KUPRES, November 26 (FENA) - President of the Croat Democratic Union of Bosnia and Herzegovina (HDZ BiH) Dragan Čović said today that there is no compromise on the constituency of the people, legitimate representation and the BiH Constitution.
“There is a compromise on the proposals we talked about and are talking about, and only HDZ gave at least four different models regarding the House of Peoples and the Presidency, which were given to SDA representatives, but also these five institutions that witnessed our agreements, and there is so much room for agreement if an agreement is desired. If we want tactics to avoid an agreement, to welcome the next elections in the current Election Law, then it is something else and I think it can not end well,” said Čović at a press conference in Kupres where the Presidency and the Central Committee of HDZ held sessions.
He added that the Croat people want to build a modern, European Bosnia and Herzegovina and give their full contribution in it.
He emphasized that final negotiations on changes to the Election Law would be held next week.
“We will negotiate exclusively on the four elements that we agreed on at the last adjourned meeting, which continues on Monday, November 29, and should end permanently on December 2. One of the key topics is the models for electing members of the Presidency and the House of Peoples as a follow-up to the June 2020 Mostar agreement when we implemented one agreement on Mostar and defined another, how to ensure legitimate representation of constituent peoples. The other thing we agreed on is that we will solve it by eliminating any form of discrimination, which means that we must implement all the judgments of the Court in Strasbourg, and before that our Constitutional Court in BiH,” said Čović.
The third thing that has been agreed, says Čović, is to make possible limited amendments to the Constitution in accordance with the agreements on amendments to the Election Law.
Čović also referred to the statement of SDA President Bakir Izetbegović that HDZ BiH will not get anything, saying that there is no need to comment on such statements.
He added that no one should give anything to Croats because constituency and the houses of peoples are constitutional categories.
“I would be happier if Herceg Bosna or three republics remained in the BiH Constitution, but it did not. Today, it would be more rational to talk about civic concepts if we had three units, civic concepts could be represented in each of them, and everyone would be satisfied,” said Čović.
