BRATUNAC, November 28 (FENA) - A joint border crossing and a bridge over the Drina River between the two municipalities, Bratunac in BiH and Ljubovija in Serbia officially opened today. The opening ceremony of the Bratoljub Bridge was attended by BiH Minister of Communications and Transport Vojin Mitrović, Serbian Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin, Republika Srpska Prime Minister Radovan Višković, mayors Srdjan Rankić and Milan Jovanović and many other representatives.

This is a joint project of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, which will contribute to the economic development of part of Podrinje, and enhancement of other relations.

Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vojin Mitrović, said that this was the first integrated joint border crossing with a bridge between the two countries of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We are grateful to Serbia and President Vučić who set aside 13 million euros for the construction of the bridge. The construction of the bridge lasted from October 2015 to May 2017. Then, in 2019, the new Council of Ministers of BiH allocated the financial resources that were necessary to build this joint border crossing. The value of these works was 14.5 million KM, while the Government of the Republika Srpska financed the construction of the access road to the border crossing on the left side of the Drina River,” said Mitrović.

The construction of this bridge will facilitate transport and reduce the costs of transporting goods for entrepreneurs from Srebrenica, Bratunac and Ljubovija, as well as neighboring municipalities.

The new border crossing will be a joint location of the BiH and Serbian customs and police authorities, the first of its kind in the region. It will be an international first-line border crossing at which the movement of goods subject to inspection will also be allowed. The crossing will have three entrance and three exit lanes and a lane for cyclists.
