TUZLA, December 5 (FENA) - From January to December 1, 2021, the Helpline for Journalists, which operates within the Association of BH Journalists, recorded eight cases of mobbing and violations of labor rights.

According to a survey of the BiH Journalists Association, 57.5 percent of journalists are permanently employed, while 19.3 percent have the status of part-time associates.

Bedrana Kaletović is a graduate journalist from Tuzla who had her first real journalistic experience in the former Tuzla daily newspaper where journalists signed contracts for minimum wages, pensions and health insurance.

"My colleagues and I naively believed that it was regular and unquestionable, but it turned out that we were insured only when we rebeled, often for two or three days only. Salaries were late and in the end we left the company with six unpaid salaries for which we were duly registered in the workers' books," said Kaletović in an interview with FENA.

The problems of journalist Kaletović and her colleagues did not end after leaving the editorial office where they did not have a minimum of workers' rights. Due to unpaid contributions, it was very difficult for them to apply to the Employment Bureau.

Some of the violated rights of journalists and editors within media houses, which were reported to the Helpline for Journalists, are non-compliance with employment contracts, delegation of tasks and obligations that are not in accordance with the position in the employment contract, sanctioning journalists or editors without respecting the Labor Law, mobbing, pressure at work, non-payment to the pension fund, illegal dismissals, work without a contract, etc.

There is a long list of problems that journalists write about and do not talk about often because the media system is vindictive and cruel, and currently does not forgive the fight for basic workers' rights.

Through its activities, the BiH Journalists Association often points out the importance of respecting the rights and legal obligations towards employees.

The Law on Transparency of Media Ownership in BiH has not yet been adopted and it would significantly solve many problems through the regulation of that part.
