SARAJEVO, January 10 (FENA) - Representatives of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina were to hold another in a series of meetings with representatives of BiH political parties today in Sarajevo on the issue of amending the BiH Election Law, but the meeting was canceled.

The OSCE Mission to BiH spokeswoman Željka Šulc confirmed this in a statement to FENA, saying that the meeting was canceled for logistical reasons, and in addition to representatives of the OSCE Mission, the meetings are also attended by representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH and the Embassy of the United States.

Šulc added that the OSCE Mission was not the organizer of the meeting, although several of the last meetings were held at their premises which were closed to the public, which should have also been the case today.

Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Bruce G. Berton, earlier said that these are very important meetings aimed at finding a solution to amend the Election Law.

Political parties, he added, have a duty towards their electorate, not only in terms of the rule of law, but also with regard to the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights on the BiH Election Law.

"What the international community wants is to facilitate and accelerate the dialogue that is taking place in this direction and we do not intend to create or impose solutions," Berton pointed out,

He also said that it was difficult to define a concrete deadline for adopting the amendments to the law, but it would be ideal if the proposal was submitted to the Central Election Commission of BiH by March 2018.

There are currently two proposals to amend the Election Law in the parliamentary procedure. One has been adopted in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH on the proposal of the Croat Caucus, and the other was proposed by the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) in the House of Representatives.
