SARAJEVO, January 10 (FENA) - The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through its work, in various ways and through various institutions, has opposed and continues to oppose the ideological interpretation of Islam and the abuse of religion, said the secretary of the Mufti Council of the Islamic Community, Ahmed Purdić, at the presentation of publication “Analysis of the ideology of takfeer and violent extremism”.
“The community had a lot more activities whose titles do not mention religious radicalism or violent extremism, but which directly influenced the reduction of this phenomenon among members of the Islamic Community in BiH. By this we firstly mean the daily activities of the Community related to the foundations of Islamic tradition and Bosnian experience of living and practicing Islam, implemented by our imams through maktab schools, khutbahs, lectures and many other activities, as well as by our teachers of religion courses in elementary and secondary schools,” said Mr. Purdić who announced that the publication will be translated into English as well.
Mufti of Sarajevo, Enes ef. Ljevaković said that in the past period the Islamic Community has paid special attention to the fight against violent extremism and terrorism, but also the ideology of takfeer as the "ideological substratum upon which the violent and extremist acts have grown and developed."
