SARAJEVO, January 24 (FENA) - Bulgaria's Ambassador to BiH Avgustina Tzvetkova-Karabasheva, Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark, and BiH Foreign Minister Igor Crnadak presented today in Sarajevo the priorities of the Bulgarian presidency of the European Union.

They agree that the priorities of Bulgaria over the next six months will be the Western Balkan countries and that BiH should take advantage of this opportunity in order to move faster towards the EU.

Mr. Wigemark believes that the presidency of Bulgaria comes at a convenient moment since the EU has been working for years to intensify efforts to provide support to the Western Balkan countries in the integration process.

He emphasized that regional cooperation, activities on improving the connection of road and other infrastructure, and of course trade, were still the priorities.

"It is important to continue the implementation of reforms. Although we are in the election year, this is not an excuse to stop or delay reforms, they are an important part of the European integration process. BiH cannot afford that any political leader holds this country hostage on its European path," said Mr. Wigemark, adding that this year will be crucial for BiH when it comes to the European integration process.

Ambassador Tzvetkova-Karabasheva, reminding that the focus of Bulgarian presidency of the EU is the Western Balkans region, said that this was a great opportunity for the region to progress, to take advantage of the momentum of the process towards European integration.

"The slogan of the presidency of Bulgaria is 'United We Stay Strong', and that is the motto of Bulgaria itself. Unity and solidarity are key to success and relevance," said the Ambassador, adding that security and stability are the priorities of a united Europe.

She underlined that the European perspective is that states of the entire region should build sustainable peace, security, trust and good neighborly relations.

"One of the ambitions of Bulgaria's presidency is to accomplish a very clear action plan with each country, without creating unrealistic expectations, but with very concrete steps. It is one of the ways to ensure lasting peace, security and prosperity in the region," she stressed.
