MOSTAR/ SARAJEVO, January 25 (FENA) – Director of Border Police of BiH, Zoran Galic, and Assistant Director for Organization and Operation, Slobodan Krstic, met on Thursday with the delegation of the Independent Committee of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly and discussed Border Police activities in fighting all forms of cross-border crime, combating illegal migration and the intensified migration pressure.
The results of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2017 were presented, and the problems in the work of its officers highlighted, says the statement issued by the Border Police of BiH.
Galic has pointed out the importance of staffing of the police agency whose development is necessary given the commitment of BiH to become a member of the European Union.
"Currently, Border Police in BiH has most problems in the zone of responsibility of the Trebinje Border Police Unit , which lacks 35 % police officers and specialist equipment", Galic said.
He added that due to the increased migration pressure, the police officers and specialist equipment of other organizational units had been engaged in border control activities within the Trebinje Unit zone of responsibility .
The infrastructure issues at border crossings were also discussed at the meeting. It was underlined that the infrastructure at only 20 % border crossings met the standards required for the quality and efficiency of border checks.
Representatives of the Independent Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina pointed out tha , in accordance with their competencies, they will be support to the work of the police agency at the state level.
