Japan grants funds for two health care centers in Sarajevo and Srebrenik

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 31 (FENA) – The Government of Japan has granted about 1,000,000 KM for two medical projects in Sarajevo and Srebrenik.

The government of Japan grants about 42,400KM (21,678Euros) for “The Project for Health Care Center Stari Grad in Sarajevo” to purchase an ultrasound machine.

The government of Japan also grants about 57,100KM (29,207Euros) for “The Project for Equipping Health Care Center Srebrenik with an Ambulance Vehicle”.

The signing ceremony of these Grant Contracts will be held on 1 February 2018 at 11:00 at the Embassy of Japan, Sarajevo.

Health Care Center Stari Grad in Sarajevo which was established in 1968 is the sole primary medical institution in this area. However, since the ultrasound machine which the HCC uses currently is not working well, the center cannot provide appropriate ultrasound tests for its patients. The project contributes to renewing ultrasound machine for local people to have an examination safely.

Health Care Center Srebrenik was established in 1994 and works as the only primary medical institution in Srebrenik Municipality. In the HCC, although about 1,100 people need ambulance service annually, all three ambulance vehicles which the HCC owns have been deteriorated over time and cannot transport its patients properly. Owing to this project, the HCC will be able to provide better emergency service in the ambulance vehicle to its patients.

Japan is one of the largest bilateral donors in BiH. Under various scheme (i.e. General Grant Aid, Loan Aid, Technical Cooperation and Cultural Grant Aid), the Japan’s assistance to BiH reached around 1 billion KM during the past 20 years, covering vital sectors such as primary health care, education, demining, water supply, agriculture, environment protection, infrastructure, culture etc.

Japan will continue to support BiH, with the aim to contribute to socio-economic development in these key areas, stated the Embassy of Japan to BiH.
