SARAJEVO, February 2 (FENA) - A meeting of representatives of the United States Embassy to BiH, USAID, EBRD and BH Gas on the participation of these institutions in the realization of the strategic project for the construction of the BiH-Croatia Southern Interconnection System Gas Pipeline, was held today in the premises of BH Gas company.
The FBiH Government has reached a conclusion on the strategic interest of the BH Gas’ project of BiH-Croatia Southern Interconnection System Zagvozd – Posušje – Novi Travnik – Travnik with a separate connection for Mostar and tasked the FBiH Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry and BH Gas to intensify their activities on its implementation.
After the European Commission approved the grant funds for the project of the Southern Interconnection System within the ConnecTA Pre-Accession Fund, the Comprehensive Cost and Benefit Analysis (CBA) is in the final phase.
“Today’s meeting confirmed the support for this project by the US Embassy and USAID, who are ready to fund the preparation of the next level of technical documentation, i.e. feasibility study, conceptual project and environmental impact study. For this purpose, the grant has already been secured and activities have been initiated to prepare the documentation,” the statement reads.
The BH Gas adds that it is very important to emphasize that this project has received the support from the FBiH Government, as well as the close cooperation of BH Gas with the EBRD.
EBRD, in the phase of drafting technical documentation through EU funds and USAID technical assistance, also strongly supported the project and expressed willingness to ultimately, through the credit arrangement participate in the financing of the construction project of the BiH-Croatia Southern Interconnection Gas Pipeline.
During the meeting, the USAID and EBRD representatives expressed their commitment to the implementation of this strategic project whose importance is not only reflected in the gasification of new areas within BiH, but also in ensuring the continuous supply in the FBiH and the country as a whole through diversification of supply sources.
The project of Southern Interconnection System is in direct connection with the project of construction of Krk terminal and IAP project.
Apart from the support of this project, USAID and EBRD highlighted the importance of preserving and stabilizing the natural gas market in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the creation of a legal framework in BiH, and in this regard the participants of the meeting discussed the USAID technical assistance on the transposition of the Third Energy Package in its full scope, stated the BH Gas.
