SARAJEVO, February 6 (FENA) - Sixteen suspects were arrested in the operation codenamed “Albatros”, which has been conducted since the early morning hours.
Fourteen locations have been searched in the Sarajevo Canton, Una-Sana Canton and Tuzla Canton.
Simultaneously, the officers of the BiH Service for Foreigners’ Affairs conducted searches of eight facilities, believed to house illegal migrants, in the territory of the mentioned cantons.
The operation is being conducted on the order of a Prosecutor from the Special Department for Organized Crime, Economic Crime and Corruption, and is participated by more than a dozen police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA).
The operation is aimed at persons suspected of smuggling from BiH, as an organized criminal group, to the territory of Croatia and further to the EU countries, a greater number of Serbian citizens from Kosovo who did not have valid travel documents, all with the aim of gaining material profit from illegal transfer of foreign nationals for the agreed cash compensation.
People under investigation within the aforementioned case are suspected of the criminal offense of organizing a group or association for the commission of a criminal offense “smuggling of migrants”.
This operation is a decisive step in the efforts of judicial and police institutions in BiH against illegal migration and smuggling of migrants.
After the activities have been carried out, the suspects will be handed over to the Prosecutor who, after questioning the suspects, will make a decision on initiating a motion to determine the measure of detention or prohibition measures and other activities in accordance with the law, stated the BiH Prosecutor's Office.
