FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 7 (FENA) - Deputy Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Brkić headed the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH MFA) at bilateral political consultations between the BiH MFA and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, held today in Sarajevo.

The delegation of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania was led by the Deputy Minister Artemis Dralo.

The participants of the consultations confirmed that the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Albania were good and friendly, strengthened by common European priorities, cooperation within regional initiatives and the strong support of Albania to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European and Euro-Atlantic path.

They carried out an inventory of the current cooperation and put forward proposals for further improvement.

They confirmed the common interest to sign in the coming period agreements that are in the final stages of preparation - Agreement between the BiH Council of Ministers and the Government of the Republic of Albania on cooperation in the process of accession to the European Union, Economic Cooperation Agreement, Mutual Recognition Agreement and Drivers’ License Replacement Agreement.

Both sides assessed that the economy remains an area where it is possible and desirable to stimulate the development of cooperation.

Deputy Minister Brkić invited Albanian businessmen to attend the International Fair of Economy in Mostar, to be held in early April 2018, as well as at the next Sarajevo Business Forum.

They exchanged opinions on gas supply issues through joint participation in the Ionian Adriatic Pipeline Project (IAP) linking this part of Europe with the Caspian region as well as the issue of mutual support and cooperation in the implementation of the Adriatic-Ionian highway.

They emphasized that it was necessary to encourage tourism exchange, i.e. to maximize the potential of tourism, which can be the driver of the stronger development of the two countries.

The two countries also have very good regional cooperation, within the framework of regional initiatives. Given that the aspirations of both countries are the EU accession, they expressed readiness to continue providing mutual support on the road to full membership in the European Union.

They welcomed the yesterday's announcement of the Strategy for “A Credible Enlargement Perspective for and Enhanced EU Engagement with the Western Balkans" and stressed that it shows a new, different approach of the EU towards Western Balkan countries in relation to the EU's current policy.

It recognizes the importance of the Western Balkans for the EU, confirms that the citizens of the Western Balkans and the EU share common historical and cultural values, but also challenges in the future.

In the field of Euro-Atlantic integration, Deputy Minister Brkić, who is also the chairman of the NATO Integration Process Committee, informed the attendees about the activities that are being carried out in BiH in order to meet the conditions for the activation of the Membership Action Plan (MAP).

He thanked Albania for its open support in this process, the relaxation of the Tallinn conditions and the acceptance of the progress achieved, as well as the participation of Albania in the work of the Informal Group “Friends of BiH”, which brings together the member countries actively supporting BiH on its way to NATO.

During the consultation, the participants exchanged information on mutual support in international and regional organizations and bodies and other topics of mutual interest, stated the BiH MFA Public Relations Office.
