SARAJEVO, February 8 (FENA) - The Sarajevo Winter Festival 2018, with this year’s motto "The Other Face of the World" opened last evening at the National Theater with a concert by the Guard Orchestra of Bulgaria titled "Meeting of Cultures: from Brass to Jazz", dedicated to the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the European Union.

This renowned cultural event brought together numerous citizens, representatives of social, political and cultural life in BiH, as well as diplomats in our country.

The Festival Director Ibrahim Spahić welcomed the representatives of Bulgaria, the honorary guest of the Festival, the country that was the first to have recognized the independent and sovereign BiH, and which with its presiding over the Council of the European Union, opens up a new opportunity for European reintegration for the benefit of all of Europe.

“Patrons of the festival are both, UNESCO and the Council of Europe, sharing the same mission, which is to represent the culture of diversity and commitment to science, culture, freedom of speech and creativity,” said Spahić.

Bulgarian Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Augustina Cvetkova-Karabaseva said that the repertoire of the concert was selected in accordance with the motto of this year's edition of the Sarajevo Winter Festival "The Other Face of the World", and in the spirit of the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU with the slogan "United We Stand Strong".

“Let us unite with this concert through the universal language of music, expressing unity through diversity,” she said.

Cvetkova-Karabaseva also stressed that unity, reconciliation, and cooperation among the countries of the region were confirmed yesterday by adopting the Strategy for the Western Balkans.

“Bulgaria will continue to make efforts towards the European integration process. BiH can count on our support,” Ambassador Cvetkova-Karabaseva concluded.

The opening was preceded by a performance of young artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, South Korea, Japan, China and India at the Susan Sontag Square in Sarajevo.
