SARAJEVO, February 8 (FENA) - BiH Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, Mirko Šarović, who attended the final negotiations on BiH's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, told reporters today in Sarajevo that BiH is close to WTO membership.
"We have taken the first out of two steps in these negotiations yesterday in Geneva, and we are really close to WTO membership. This means that we have completed the negotiations on the market access with Ukraine, which is a significant shift. An obstacle for Bosnia and Herzegovina are still the negotiations with Russia, with whom we have completed half of the work, given that we have agreed on the rules, i.e. the decision on the quality of liquid petroleum fuels, that is, the possibility for Russian companies to sell fuel and that fuel with higher quality is properly marked," explained Mr. Šarović.
He stressed that the second document that was adopted yesterday, and perhaps even the most powerful, is the action plan, i.e. a roadmap for BiH's accession to the World Trade Organization.
He said that, in essence, it means that WTO members have adopted an action plan that expects BiH to be admitted to the World Trade Organization by the summer of 2018.
"In March, when - and we are convinced that this will happen - we conclude the bilateral negotiations, we will need at least three months of technical preparations with the WTO administration, so BiH will be admitted to the World Trade Organization in June, before the summer holiday season," concluded Minister Mirko Šarović.
