SARAJEVO, April 25 (FENA) - Spokeswoman of the Missing Persons Institute of BiH, Lejla Čengić told FENA today that the MPI is currently conducting searches at several locations in the Zvornik area in order to locate the remains of victims killed in 1992 in this region.
She added that an exhumation is scheduled for tomorrow in the area of Banovići, in the village of Željova.
“In the coming period, we will conduct exhumations in the area of the Kameničko brdo in Bratunac, where the remains of victims killed during the genocide have been found at two locations on the surface of the terrain,” said Čengić.
According to her, during next month, they will search two sites in the Srebrenica area in order to try to locate the victims killed in 1992.
Čengić said that during April they checked a number of information about potential mass graves, but unfortunately no information have proven to be accurate.
“We searched for mass graves of victims killed during the 1995 Srebrenica genocide, but the information we received turned out to be false,” said Čengić.
She also pointed out that the basic problem they face in the process of searching for missing persons is the lack of substantiated information about potential individual and mass graves.
“As time goes by, the number and reliability of the information received gets more and more reduced. We are still searching for 7,000 missing persons in BiH,” concluded Čengić.
