Inzko: Pre-election campaign very disappointing

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 3 (FENA) - Pre-election campaign in BiH has been very disappointing so far, said High Representative to BiH Valentin Inzko, considering there have not been discussions on issues that are truly important for the citizens such as economy and rule of law.

He noted in his article for Austrian paper Wiener Zeitung that many political parties, especially the biggest political party in BiH entity of Republika Srpska, still uses nationalist rhetoric of divisions to attract the voters.

"However, there is not only irresponsible rhetoric but also persistent nationalist politics by certain politicians. Those who remember the nineties still remember destruction that such nationalism brought to the Balkans, especially BiH," he added.

Inzko finds that nationalist politicians are trying to annul reforms achieved after signing of the Dayton Treaty in 1995, working against interest of BiH citizens and interest of many European countries who want this country and region to successfully deal with modern challenges of illegal migration and cross-border organized crime.

"And truly, regardless of the fact that most people still vote for the same parties that caused this blockade, at the same time many are leaving this country because of frustrations, especially young people, around 20 000 of them per year. They have lost hope that things will ever change for the better," believes High Representative to BiH.

He assessed that citizens need political stability, rule of law, work opportunities, reliable infrastructure, quality healthcare and many other things that European often take for granted.

He added that since the beginning of the campaign he encouraged citizens to use their civil right and vote in the elections, he encouraged them to think about the real issues that concern their future and future of their children before they give their vote to someone in October.
