SARAJEVO, May 3 (FENA) – Chairman of the BiH Presidency Šefik Džaferović congratulated journalists and media workers on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day.
"I extend my sincerest congratulations to journalists and all media workers on the occasion of May 3 – World Press Freedom Day,” said Džaferović.
Free media are crucial for functioning and development of a democratic society.
It is the obligation of all political and social actors in every part of Bosnia and Herzegovina to ensure an environment for free media work. Similarly, the media is expected to have impartial and responsible reporting, respecting professional and ethical principles.
It is a formula that will contribute to the development of democracy and society as a whole.
I am pleased that Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to the latest report by Reporters Without Borders, has made significant progress, that BiH is the country with the best ranked press freedom index in the region, and that it is also ahead of a number of EU Member States. This should be our motive to continue to build an environment in which free media will play its social role for the benefit of every citizen.
“I take this opportunity to congratulate all media workers and thank them for the enormous efforts they are making in reporting during the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic," said Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency Chairman Šefik Džaferović.
