Sejdić: 12 years have passed but discrimination still has not been eliminated

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, December 22 (FENA) - On this day 12 years ago, the High Judicial Council of the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg handed down a judgment in the 'Sejdic and Finci case v. Bosnia and Herzegovina, reminded today of this fact the president of the Roma Information Center 'Kali Sara' and one of the appellants, Dervo Sejdić.

He says that he was the only one present at the reading of the judgment, "because my colleague Jakov Finci and our lawyers were busy with other obligations".

"I was and remain proud that I managed to hear the judgment before the Strasbourg court which proved that the Constitution and the Election Law of Bosnia and Herzegovina are discriminatory.

Today, I am very proud and at the same time very sad, because this discrimination has not been eliminated, I am not sure when it would happen, but I am sure that my country, Bosnia and Herzegovina will be a state of equal citizens eventually," said Sejdić.

He added that he sincerely hopes that Bosnia and Herzegovina will produce some new people with modern outlooks who will be focused on coexistence and unity, social and political equality of citizens regardless of their national, ethnic, religious or political affiliation, skin color and a part of BiH in which they live.
