SARAJEVO, February 7 (FENA) - The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide and Movement “Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves” consider that the draft law on "prohibition of abuse of the term genocide" is in itself an attempt to abuse the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, and call on members of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly to reject the proposal.

“Amendments to the BiH Criminal Code passed by the High Representative in BiH, unequivocally regulate this area and provide protection to each individual, but also to the collective,” they said in a statement, adding that the aim of the amendment was to remove the publicly proclaimed responsibility of the people and to clearly emphasize the responsibility of individuals or groups of people who have joined together to commit crimes.

They add that the amendments to the Criminal Code imposed by former High Representative in BiH Valentin Inzko in July 2021 state that "the law shall enter into force as provided in the article of that law, on a temporary basis, until the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted in the same form, without amendments and without additional conditions".

The mentioned associations call on the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH to urgently adopt the law, because without the adoption of the law, any discussion on the topic of denial or abuse of the word genocide is pointless, as well as the adoption of other laws that treat genocide in BiH, the Association of Genocide Victims and Witnesses and the Movement "Mothers of Srebrenica and Žepa Enclavea" said.
