SARAJEVO, February 11 (FENA) - Vice President of the European People's Party (EPP) club in the European Parliament and Vice President of the EP Foreign Affairs Committee Željana Zovko said today that the EPP is the largest political group in Europe that understands the complexity of the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A delegation of the European People's Party (EPP) club in the European Parliament visited Bosnia and Herzegovina, where they met with political representatives, representatives of civil society and academia to discuss the current political situation in the country.

As they stated, they came to BiH to listen to and contribute to the current negotiations on changes to the BiH Election Law, discuss the perspective of BiH in the European Union and point out the wrongness of the decisions made by the National Assembly of Republika Srpska.

"The EPP understands how urgently it is necessary to resolve the issue of changes to the Election Law, and the moment when they chose to visit BiH has never been better. We have the highest visit at the highest level. We came to support our partner parties in the country to find a solution," Zovko explained.

She stressed that compromise is the key to BiH gaining a candidate status for full membership in the European Union and making progress in that regard.

Asked by reporters whether the international community is too lenient as Republika Srpska continues to make unconstitutional moves, as the Republika Srpska National Assembly yesterday passed a draft law on the entity's High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council seeking to strip the HJPC of its powers, Zovko said, if there is no respect for the law, there will be no financial allocations for the countries from the EU budget.

"All that the EU can do is to prevent further financing for BiH and progress towards the EU. BiH is one family and all things must be considered within the family, and not seek help from outside," Zovko underlined.

The delegation also included  Manfred Weber, Chairman of the EPP in the European Parliament, Rasa Juknevičienė, Vice-President of the EPP Group in charge of Foreign Affairs Andrey Kovatchev, spokesman for the EPP Group for Enlargement and Southern Neighborhood David McAllister and the European Parliament's Permanent Rapporteur on Bosnia and Herzegovina Paul Rangel.
