SARAJEVO, March 25 (FENA) - The BiH Minister of Civil Affairs Ankica Gudeljević and Japanese Ambassador to BiH Makoto Ito visited the Butmir agro-meteorological station today to review the state of the equipment donated by the Japanese government to BiH.
Gudeljević said that securing food supply is currently a challenge for many countries and that Bosnia and Herzegovina must use all means to improve production.
She called on all agricultural producers to cooperate with agricultural institutes and use the exceptional opportunities provided by this equipment and thanked the Government of Japan for its valuable assistance.
Ambassador Ito stated that this station is one of the ten donated to BiH that are able to collect and automatically transmit data on climatic conditions in real-time to the servers of hydrometeorological institutes, where they are available to end-users.
"Last week, in cooperation with the University of Sarajevo, we organized an online lecture by a Japanese professor on "smart agriculture", which is based on these data, and I think it is time to consider new agriculture based on advanced technologies," said Ito.
He expressed hope that the stations would be useful for both hydrometeorological institutes in order to develop agriculture and that they would be used as a symbol of friendship between Japan and BiH.
The equipment was provided as part of the assistance of the Government of Japan to Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2013 and 2014 and is worth 1.3 million KM.
