SARAJEVO, May 23 (FENA) - As of today, the Alley of Ambassadors is richer by four more linden trees. At the invitation of the Mayor of Sarajevo's Stari Grad (Old Town) Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, the ambassadors of Italy, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and UNDP took part in the tree-planting project today.

As Mayor Hadžibajrić pointed out, this is a unique project and all accredited ambassadors to BiH will have their own tree, and the Alley will soon be extended from the bridge on Dariva in the direction of Kozija ćuprija. It is on this section that significant projects have been realized in the past period.

Mayor Hadžibajrić planted linden trees with the ambassadors of Italy, Saudi Arabia and the UNDP, while Councilor Begović helped the Spanish ambassador and the Egyptian ambassador plant the linden trees. After the planting, the hosts presented the ambassadors with certificates, the old town souvenir "Sarajevo Cube", and a brochure that is a record of all the ambassadors who participated in the project.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Italy, Marco Di Ruzza, said that planting linden trees is a huge honor for him.

"I would like to thank Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić for the invitation and the opportunity,” said the Italian Ambassador.

“Today's ceremony is even more valuable knowing that yesterday, together with the Municipality of Stari Grad, we realized a wonderful event, and that is the performance of ensigns from the Italian city of Arezzo. Linden is a strong and long-lasting tree with an intense flower and fragrance. I hope that this tree will become a symbol for three important things: BiH as stable and prosperous for the benefit of its citizens, even better relations between BiH and Italy, and BiH's safe path to the EU,” said Ambassador Di Ruzza, the sixth ambassador from Italy who planted a linden tree in the Alley of Ambassadors.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain, Teresa Lizaranzu, took over the duty of Ambassador to BiH last year.

“This tradition of the Municipality of Stari Grad symbolizes the special relations between Spain and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the constant presence of the international community in this country. I especially emphasize the special relations that already exist between Sarajevo, Madrid and Barcelona. As good as this initiative and tradition is from the ecological point of view, it is also good for socio-political relations, which is great. Many thanks to Mayor Hadžibajrić and the Municipality of Stari Grad,” said Ambassador Lizaranzu.

With words of gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this project, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Osamah Dakhel R. Alahmadi pointed out the natural beauties of our country.

“This is a very nice event. The relationship between man and nature goes far back in history and this relationship gives man a kind of warmth and serenity. I hope that this planting will contribute to the already beautiful nature in BiH. That nature has made BiH one of the most attractive tourist destinations,” said Ambassador Alahmadi.

The Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdelrahman Ali Sorour, said that there is a saying in Egypt that when someone plants trees and cultivates the land, that person looks to the future towards progress and prosperity.

“I hope that the tree that I symbolically planted will represent a bright and prosperous future for Egypt and BiH,” he said.
