POTOČARI, July 11 (FENA) - The President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that today is the 28th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, an event that has been recorded as a dark stain in history.
- On this day of grief and sorrow, I once again send my sincere condolences to the bereaved families of the martyrs and Bosniak brothers and sisters - said Erdogan, who addressed the participants of the commemoration in a video message on the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the "UN Safe Zone" of Srebrenica, and the funerals of a total of 30 identified victims of the July 1995 genocide.
He added that in our thoughts "we keep the wisdom and bitter reality in the words of the late Alija: 'Whatever you do, don't forget the genocide, because the forgotten genocide repeats itself'."
- So that similar atrocities do not happen again, we will never forget and we will not allow Srebrenica to be forgotten. The wound opened in our hearts by the genocide committed in front of the eyes of the whole world in Srebrenica has been bleeding for 28 years - said Erdogan.
According to his words, with each martyr's funeral, we relive those days, we remember them again, we shed tears again.
- Today we will send another 30 martyrs to their eternal rest. May their souls be happy, and may their place be paradise. May Allah (swt) grant all the martyrs a beautiful paradise. To the families of martyrs and Bosniak brothers and sisters whose pain grows stronger every July 11, I wish sabur - said Erdogan.
He pointed out that despite the verdicts of international courts, there are still those who deny the genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, who say that they do not regret the war crimes they committed, and unfortunately there are also those who support them.
- I condemn these people without conscience and these deplorable statements. In order not to repeat the suffering in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we must leave behind hate speech and establish a culture of peace, tolerance and reconciliation. We must all work together to preserve peace and stability in the Balkans - emphasized Erdogan.
He said that we must not forget that the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina is key to the stability of the Balkans and Europe.
- Turkey will continue to do everything to turn BiH into a nest of stability, peace and prosperity - said Erdogan.
He pointed out that compared to the period 28 years ago, Turkey today, with its economy, diplomacy, potentials and abilities, is much stronger and more respected.
- Our country will never allow the sufferings of that time to be repeated. We will always support the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. I expect you to be calm and open-hearted. With these thoughts, at the end of this address, I ask Allah the Almighty to grant his mercy to the martyrs of Srebrenica, and I respectfully bow before their shadows - Erdogan concluded.
