BELGRADE, January 12 (FENA) - American State Department advisor Derek Chollet is coming from Pristina to Belgrade today, where he will talk with the highest officials of Serbia.
Chollet will first speak with the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, at a working lunch, and then he will meet separately with Prime Minister Ana Brnabić and Head of Diplomacy, Ivica Dačić.
One of the topics of discussion will be the continuation of the dialogue between Belgrade and Priština, including the Franco-German plan for Kosovo, which the EU adopted, reports Beta.
It was announced that Chollet will discuss energy security, regional economic integration, Serbia's progress on the European path and its role in strengthening regional peace and security with officials in Belgrade.
Chollet is coming to Belgrade as part of a tour of the Western Balkans, which he started on Wednesday with a visit to Skopje, where he met with the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Dimitar Kovačevski.
The US official was also in Kosovo, where he spoke separately with the Prime Minister and President, Albina Kurti and Vjosa Osmani, and with representatives of the opposition and the Serbian List.
Chollet, who was accompanied by the US special envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, said after the meetings in Priština that he saw the "strong will" of the Kosovo government to "roll up their sleeves" in the dialogue process, repeating the position that the final agreement should be based "on the mutual recognition of Kosovo and Serbia".
He said that the formation of the Union of Serbian Municipalities is an "urgent matter", but that the USA does not support "the creation of the Republika Srpska in Kosovo" and that during its formation "the Constitution and the laws of Kosovo should be respected".
The State Department previously stated that Chollet will visit Skopje, Priština and Belgrade with the aim of emphasizing the continued commitment of the US to peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Chollet was supposed to visit the Balkans and Brussels in mid-December, but canceled the trip due to a positive test for the coronavirus. In the meantime, he gave up visiting Sarajevo, Podgorica, Zagreb and Brussels.
