SARAJEVO, May 19 (FENA) - The project "HUB for digital security - Young BiH monitors observe and report on violent extremism", which is supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in BiH, was created in response to the increase in hate speech and violent extremism on social networks, as well as the lack of information about the sources and causes of extreme content, especially those generated by young people.
Experts from BiH and the region in the field of digital security, social network analytics and regulators spoke about this current topic today at a conference in Sarajevo.
Project manager at the Association JaBiHEU, Lara Sutović, said that this project was created in response to the increase in hate speech and violent extremism on social networks, but also to the lack of information about why we have so much extreme content generated by young people.
She noted that five modules have been held so far - in Bihać, Tuzla, Sarajevo and in an online format, where young people from all over BiH had the opportunity to listen to lectures by eminent lecturers from BiH and the region.
Today in Sarajevo, the final conference is taking place, where lecturers from the Netherlands, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina participate.
She announced that in the coming period, they expect to continue, not only monitoring but also a large number of workshops throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Jan Waltmans, said that in the modern era, the media and social media generate huge amounts of information, and people who read that information are not able to distinguish what is true and what is not.
According to him, it is very important that the media and journalists have the freedom to seek information, especially from the authorities, and to express different opinions and interpretations of what is important and what is not.
"It is also important that young people know how to think about what they see in the media because certain individuals and groups use that freedom to spread false information and sow hatred and division," said Ambassador Waltmans.
