Mexico and BiH sign another important bilateral agreement

BELGRADE/SARAJEVO, March 27 (FENA) - Non-resident Ambassador of Mexico to Bosnia and Herzegovina seated in Belgrade, H.E. Mr. Marco Antonio Garcia Blanco and Igor Crnadak, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina signed on Monday in Belgrade the MOU between México and Bosnia and Herzegovina for the Establishment of Political Consultations on Issues of Common Interest.

Mexico and Bosnia and Herzegovina established diplomatic relations on 15 August 2001.

Ambassador of Mexico, Marco Antonio Garcia Blanco presented the information that last the two countries signed their first bilateral agreements, among them the Agreement on cooperation between the Mexican business council for foreign trade, investments and technology (COMCE) and the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina, also the Memorandum of Understanding to Cooperate and Exchange News between Notimex and the Federal News Agency (FENA), and the Memorandum of Understanding between ProMexico and the Bosnia and Herzegovina's Investments Promotion Agency (FIPA).

Following these agreements, Mexico and BiH signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the Establishment of Political Consultations on Matters of Mutual Interest.

“It is with those first four bilateral instruments, that both countries advance constructing the legal foundations that regulate and promote their bilateral links, and institutionalize the permanent dialog in both political and commercial spheres,” said the Ambassador.

Ambassador Blanco also noted that on 31 March 2017 in Podgorica, the 1st seminar of business opportunities between Mexico and Bosnia and Herzegovina was held with the intention of identifying and articulating a common strategy that allows the promote business exchange, investment, co-investment, and strategic alliances between both countries. An additional follow up meeting was held in September 2017 in the BiH capital.

“Our bilateral trade, still incipient, grew in 2017 21% in relation to 2016, and 72.52% since 2015,” underlined the Ambassador.

Last week, Mexico requested the consent from Bosnia and Herzegovina's authorities to open an Honorary Consulate in Sarajevo, with jurisdiction in the whole country and, while the consent is granted, is looking for a suitable candidate for that position, in order to boost bilateral ties.

“I would like to thank once again the valuable support of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the successful Mexican candidature for the presidency of the Inter Parliamentary Union. At the same time, Mexico congratulates on the decision of Bosnia and Herzegovina to open an Honorary Consulate in Mexico City, which happened on 25 May 2017.

These are only the first steps in our bilateral relations and we have still much to do. Mexico has the interest and willingness to increase, diversify and strengthen its ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

We believe in the mutual benefits of a bilateral relationship under the principle of share responsibility; hence the importance of both countries to cultivate with care and perseverance the relationship,” concluded Ambassador Blanco in his address.
