SOFIA, May 17 (FENA) - Chair of the BiH Presidency Bakir Izetbegović attended the European People's Party (EPP) Summit ahead of the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which is being held in Sofia.
EPP Summit was also attended by presidents of the European Parliament Antonio Tajani and European Council Donald Tusk, President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Planković, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and others. Hosts of the summit were president of the European People's Party Joseph Daul and Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borissov.
During his address, Chair Izetbegović emphasized four key elements necessary for accelerated path to the EU.
He said we need peace in the Balkans, reforms through negotiations with the EU and we need to build infrastructure more intensively, which will give impulse to economy. He emphasized we also need support from our friends from the European people's parties.
After the summit, Chair Izetbegović stated that so far this has been the strongest support to the Balkans and its EU path. Declaration was adopted at the EPP Summit, which apart from support to the Balkans and its EU path also stresses importance of fulfilling commitment of countries candidates for the EU accession.
Focus of the EU-Western Balkans Summit, which begins in Sofia today, is confirming the European perspective of countries of the region. Special attention will also be paid to economic cooperation, Presidency of BiH stated.
