SARAJEVO, May 30 (FENA) - The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide urges all institutions and organizations to display tomorrow morning, on the windows or vehicles, white sheets in a sign of solidarity with citizens of Prijedor, who in 1992 had to wear white ribbons on their sleeves and mark their households.
“The aim of the 'Together Against Denial’ initiative is to give voice and support to those who are no longer with us on May 31, 2018, and in particular to 102 Prijedor's murdered children and more than 3,000 murdered civilians for whom the Prijedor's authorities to date deny the construction of memorials. The least we can do is not to allow innocent victims to fall into oblivion and denial of crimes committed,” this Association said in a statement.
They remind that on May 31, 1992, through a local radio station, an order was issued that all non-Serbs in Prijedor had to mark their houses by putting white sheets on their houses, and when leaving their homes, they had to wear a prominent white ribbon around their arm.
“With this act, the Serb government that illegally assumed power in the municipality of Prijedor started implementing fascist measures aimed at permanently removing non-Serbs from the area of the municipality of Prijedor,” the Association stated.
They point out that in the strategic campaign of ethnic cleansing more than 50,000 people from Prijedor and surrounding settlements were killed and expelled. About 30,000 children, women and men of non-Serb ethnicity went through the Keraterm, Omarska, Trnopolje and other 54 detention camps in Prijedor, suffering inhumane conditions, the Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide stated.
