SARAJEVO, June 13 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Šarović opened today in Sarajevo a conference "Committee on Trade Facilitation and Public-Private Dialogue in BiH", which aims to create conditions for more efficient cross-border movement of goods, and active cooperation between the private and public sectors.

The committee was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers of BiH in May this year to further simplify and harmonize customs and other border procedures in accordance with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other agreements and protocols related to the trade facilitation process (SAA, CEFTA and EFTA).

“We are at the end of a very important road, marking the end of the process and negotiations regarding the establishment of the Trade Facilitation Committee in BiH. This process in our country has lasted a couple of years, and at the global level, this process lasted for ten years.

The essence is that this Committee will help BiH facilitate trade procedures, make them more efficient, standardize procedures like it is done in other countries, and make trade cheaper in general, thus removing trade barriers, which will contribute to competitiveness , but also help business entities in BiH to trade globally, as well as within the CEFTA countries,” emphasized Šarović.

Special emphasis at the conference was placed on the importance of the Committee in the process of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession to the World Trade Organization.

Director of the Economic Development Department of USAID Mission to BiH, Andrew Boegel said that the conference is held at the right moment since the decree to establish a trade facilitation committee will enter into force very soon, probably in September.

“This is important for a number of reasons, primarily because it is in line with the provisions of the Agreement on trade facilitation with the WTO, and the public-private dialogue that will follow will help all stakeholders in BiH to implement policies, regulations and processes within the framework of the CEFTA and other agreements,” said Boegel.

Boegel added that USAID has a strong portfolio worth more than USD 60 million in private sector in the fields of wood, metal, agriculture, textile industries and other sectors, and helps private companies meet the requirements that are needed in terms of exports. Boegel stressed that they will continue with their support.
