SARAJEVO, July 15 (FENA) - Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH Mirko Šarović held urgent consultations with the competent sectors in the Ministry and institutions on the occasion of the announced decision of the European Union on the introduction of protective measures for the steel and aluminum market, as a response of the EU to the actions of the United States.
The consultations were used to consider the possible implications of this measure on the BiH market and the businesses involved in the production of steel and steel products because according to certain estimates, nearly 10,000 jobs in this sector could be compromised by the introduction of quotas by the EU.
Minister Šarović requested that the country reacts as quickly as possible and in the shortest period of time make a detailed analysis of these measures with suggestions for potential reaction and adequate measures by BiH in order to protect its domestic production to the maximum extent.
"Given that the announced measures are also problematic from the point of view of the Stabilization and Association Agreement, under which both, the EU and BiH have undertaken to respect the free market rules, the European Commission and the Directorate for Trade in the EU will be informed of the views of Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Šarović.
