SARAJEVO, August 7 (FENA) - Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić and Czech Ambassador to BiH Jakub Skalnik signed the Memorandum on the use of donation to strengthen border protection and more effectively combat illegal migration.
The Czech Republic has donated around a million euros for the purchase of modern technical equipment for border control, intended for the Border Police of BiH.
After the signing of the Memorandum, Minister Mektić said that the Czech Government has decided to donate about one million euros to Bosnia and Herzegovina in order to help the country with mitigating the migrant crisis.
The entire donation sum will be directed to the technical equipping of the BiH Border Police.
Minister Mektić assessed that this donation would be of great assistance to the Border Police in strengthening the protection of the state borders.
A managing will be formed for the implementation of this project, which will gather one representative each from the Ministry of Security of BiH, the Border Police and the Czech Embassy.
Czech Ambassador to BiH Jakub Skalnik said that assistance to the countries of the Western Balkans Hs been a long-term priority for the Czech Republic.
He recalled that they have previously helped or donated funds to Serbia and Macedonia for border police equipment because they feel that they have a duty to help these countries on the Balkan migrant route.
“That is why we have a special program that we can and must use to financially help the countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia, for them to be able to purchase better border police equipment.
BiH is among several countries that are a priority for the Czech development cooperation,” said Ambassador Skalnik, and expressed satisfaction that the Czech Republic can help in this way.
