SARAJEVO, October 1 (FENA) - Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Bruce Berton and Director of the Gender Center of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ana Vuković, today in Sarajevo signed a memorandum on the handover of software for an electronic database on domestic violence cases.

As part of the implementation of the Strategy for the Prevention and Fight against Domestic Violence (2013-2017), the OSCE Mission to BiH provided technical assistance to the Gender Center of FBiH, as the coordinator of the Strategy, to other competent institutions and non-governmental organizations in developing a methodology for collecting data on domestic violence, creation of software, as well as education of police officers, social workers and representatives of non-governmental organizations for the use of this information system, as well as for the application of regulations in the area of prevention and approach in domestic violence cases.

“We have joined forces with the Gender Center of FBiH and other partners in the creation of the database on domestic violence back in 2014. This database links the police, social work centers, safe houses and SOS phones on order to ensure that these cases are properly monitored, and to ensure that victims do not have to go through, all over again, the horrible experiences they have already gone through,” said Berton at a ceremony held at the FBiH Gender Center.

In 2014, the Mission supported the development of a database on domestic violence cases in the FBiH, which helped the authorities to respond to such cases, while also easing the social and psychological burden of victims.

“Data collection, as an invaluable and essential part of the process of prevention of domestic violence, is the only way to ensure effective analysis of policy implementation, assess the quality of support services, and meet international standards,” said Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH Bruce G. Berton.

Director of the FBiH Gender Center, Ana Vuković, highlighted the significance of the electronic database as it will connect police, social welfare centers, safe houses and SOS help lines.

“The electronic database will ease the work of professionals and reduce the additional burden of victims of domestic violence as this software will ensure that victims only once answer the set of questions in the process of seeking assistance and protection,” said Vuković.
