SARAJEVO, May 20 (FENA) - Museum professionals from six European countries gathered today at the History Museum in Sarajevo at the conference "Meet, See, Do-LAB: Excellence in Museum Education".

The conference aims to create partnerships with museums from the European Union, exchange experiences and strengthen museum education in museums across BiH.

Aida Vežić, Secretary General of the Balkan Museum Network, said that it is very important to strengthen the educational function of the museums because they are part of the education sector and that schools should have the habit and obligation to visit museums.

She added that about 40 participants responded to this conference and they are particularly happy that the conference also gathered colleagues from Croatia and Slovenia.

“About half of the participants are students from the Department of Pedagogy at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo, because we want them to be experts tomorrow, who will help museums to develop as high quality institutions, with diversified and permanent programs that will include both children and adults,” said Vežić.

Head of Amsterdam-based Association of European Jewish Museums, Eva Koppen, said that museum education is one of the main tasks for the public and the society in which they operate.

“We thought it would be a good idea to join forces with the Balkan Museum Network and the History Museum of BiH to share the experiences of Jewish museums in Amsterdam, Warsaw and Oslo,” said Koppen.

The conference organizers are the History Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Balkan Museum Network and ProMu Cultural Projects from Amsterdam.
