MOSTAR, July 24 (FENA) - A solemn ceremony organized by the Majlis of the Islamic Community (MIC) Stolac on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of one of the oldest mosques in Herzegovina, Sultan Selim's (Emperor’s) mosque, will be held on Friday, July 26 in Stolac, beginning at 20.30.
President of the Majlis of the Islamic Community of Stolac Orhan Tikveša said that Sultan Selim's mosque is an example of coexistence, tolerance, peace and general progress indispensable at any time.
He added that MIC Stolac has celebrated the half-century of the Emperor's mosque with several ceremonies throughout the year, but the most special one is the ceremony held on Friday.
The main imam of the Majlis of the Islamic Community Stolac and the imam of Sultan Selim’s (Emperor’s) mosque Mersed ef. Šabanović assessed that the fact that this mosque is full of 500 years of existence is so important for MIC Stolac, but also for the entire Islamic community and the state as a whole.
The sponsor of this event is Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić, and efendija Šabanović said that he expects the greatest attendance of this open-type event that will take place in the center of Stolac.
