Schüepp: Institutional assistance from BiH is needed in finding missing persons

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, February 18 (FENA) - Martin Schüepp, Director of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for Europe and Central Asia, said today that two-thirds of cases have been resolved when it comes to missing persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During today's meeting with Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency member Šefik Džaferović, Schüepp emphasized that institutional assistance from Bosnia and Herzegovina is needed to resolve the issue of finding missing persons faster.

Director Schüepp informed Džaferović on the first results of the ICRC's five-year strategy to find missing persons in the former Yugoslavia, more than 7.000 of whom are from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The officials also discussed the current migrant crisis in the region, as well as the return of BiH citizens staying in camps in Syria and their reintegration into society, as well as readiness of the ICRC to assist in this process, the BiH Presidency announced.
