SARAJEVO, March 31 (FENA) - Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vojin Mitrović, held a telephone meeting with the EU Ambassador to BiH Johann Sattler, at which he discussed activities undertaken in accordance with the European Commission's decision of March 23 on the selection of green corridors with the aim of connecting the Western Balkans with the Republic of Croatia and the EU Member States.
Minister Mitrović informed Ambassador Sattler that the Ministry has designated green corridors for the movement of goods in international transport on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bijača, Bosanska Gradiška and Bosanski Šamac border crossings), taking into account the decisions of the Crisis Staff of the Republic of Croatia on border crossings for international transit of goods to the EU and Western Balkan countries.
Thus, Bosnia and Herzegovina became the first of the Western Balkan countries to define the green corridors selected under the Joint Proposal prepared by the Joint Transport Community Secretariat and the CEFTA Secretariat.
The customs and other controls on goods in the context of lawful trade remain in force in accordance with CEFTA's trade rules arising from the Stabilization and Association Agreement between the EU and regional partners.
Ambassador Sattler welcomed the efforts made by the Ministry, headed by Minister Mitrović, to address the problems faced by BiH carriers, as well as the congestion at border crossings with long queues, which could have potentially detrimental effects on the supply of goods to the country. He also stressed the intention of the European Union to continue to assist BiH in the fight against coronavirus pandemic through technical support and the implementation of an assistance package to provide medical equipment and mitigate the effects on the economy.
