SARAJEVO, April 2 (FENA) - The Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina has filed an official request for international assistance to the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism through the Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC) to combat a coronavirus pandemic (COVID-2019). The request was also addressed to the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center (NATO), the BiH Ministry of Security stated.
The request was made after yesterday's decision by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina to seek international assistance in the field of protection and rescue.
In this letter, BiH Security Minister Fahrudin Radončić briefed the European Commission and the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center (NATO) on the measures taken in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He stated that all available resources were engaged and that extraordinary efforts were being made to stop the spread of coronavirus, but that the health system and other relevant sectors in Bosnia and Herzegovina did not have the capacity to respond to all needs arising from COVID-19.
He therefore stressed that assistance from the EU and the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center would be greatly appreciated in this difficult time, so that BiH can cope with the coronavirus pandemic.
