SARAJEVO, April 16 (FENA) - Defense Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sifet Podzžić spoke by phone today with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, Laura Cooper.
The two officials discussed cooperation in the field of defense, as well as the contribution and role of the departments of defense and the armed forces of the two countries in supporting the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister Podžić thanked the Government of the United States for the shipment of valuable medical and protective equipment, which was flown to BiH by the Air Force Command for Europe (USAFE) on March 23.
Podžić and Cooper discussed the BiH defense reform, modernization of military equipment and assets, a joint mission to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, as part of NATO's Resolute Support mission, and activities under the US-Adriatic Charter (A5), which Bosnia and Herzegovina is chairing in 2020.
The two agreed and confirmed that the cooperation between the two ministries of defense and the two armed forces is at an extremely high level and that the education and training of the members of the AFBiH and MoD BiH has been the most comprehensive.
Minister Podžić took the opportunity to thank the Government and the US Department of Defense for all joint projects of the US and BiH Ministries of Defense, and emphasized the process of procuring four new UH-1H-II Huey II helicopters, totaling at USD 38,539,378.
The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Laura Cooper stressed that the United States will remain a close partner of Bosnia and Herzegovina and will continue to strongly support BiH, the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH, stated the BiH Ministry of Defense.
