University of Tuzla advances on Webometrics ranking by about a hundred places

TUZLA, July 28 (FENA) - The University of Tuzla in the July edition of the Webometrics ranking ranked 3,081 out of a total of 30,000 universities on the world list.

Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the University of Tuzla, Vedad Pašić, told FENA that this is the best ranking that the University of Tuzla has achieved so far when it comes to Webometrics, and compared to the last ranking, it has improved by about a hundred places.

“The progress is actually more significant considering that the previous assessment of Webometrics did not include universities from Turkey, which are now back on the ranking list,” Pašić added.

According to him, the Webometrics methodology does not fully and realistically reflect the quality but what one of the indicators in the overall assessment indicates that the University of Tuzla has advanced by 200 places in the number of references their researchers have on Google scholar profiles.

“More than 21,000 references are ascribed to us, that is, academic papers produced by scholars working at the University of Tuzla,” said Pašić.

This ranking and progress, as he added, is the result of several important reforms that they have carried out in recent years, and that is especially visible because academic research is not so relevant if the public does not know about it.

“I am especially glad because this breaks the prejudice that exists not only in BiH, in political structures, but unfortunately also in the structures of the international community, which has always been leaning towards the narrative of the three universities with ethnic prefixes, Sarajevo, Mostar and Banja Luka.

The University of Tuzla, with its quality work, shows that such an approach is absolutely a wrong one and that we cannot actually have enough higher education institutions. It is important that they push each other forward by competing with each other,” said Pašić.

Based on the last Webometrics ranking, the University of Sarajevo was in the1496th place, the International University Sarajevo was 3,572nd, the International Burch University in the 3,763rd place, the University of Banja Luka at 3,843rd, and the University of Mostar at 4,722nd place.
