KAKANJ, August 24 (FENA) - Twenty refugee families have received the keys to apartments in a newly built social housing building in Kakanj today, and the value of this project is 1.42 million KM.
It is a building with 20 housing units intended for the accommodation of socially endangered families, refugees and displaced persons, according to the principle of social non-profit housing. The building is built within the Regional Housing Program - RSP, which is implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the State Housing Project.
The value of this program in BiH is 75 million euros, and the largest donor of the program is the European Union and the government of the United States, as well as the governments of Italy, Germany, Norway, Switzerland, Denmark, Turkey, etc. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) are supporting this program.
BiH Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Miloš Lučić, Head of the European Union Delegation to BiH Johhann Sattler, FBiH Minister for Displaced Persons and Refugees Edin Ramić, Chairman of the FBiH House of Representatives Mirsad Zaimović, Mayor of Kakanj Aldin Šljivo, OSCE representatives and others attended the ceremony.
In their addresses, they emphasized how important it is for refugees to finally get a roof over their heads and be permanently sheltered because this is a socially vulnerable category of the population. Although 25 years have passed since the war, unfortunately, there are still a large number of refugees and displaced persons who have not resolved their housing issues.
Thanks to the Regional Housing Program, a total of 3.200 housing units for vulnerable refugees, displaced persons and returnees will be provided by 2022, and about 1,700 housing units have been completed so far.
