SARAJEVO, August 30 (FENA) - The International Center for Peace (IPC) organized yesterday in Sarajevo an event on the occasion of the marking of the 831st anniversary of the Ban Kulin Charter. On August 29, 1189, Bosnian ruler Kulin Ban sent the Charter to the Prince of Dubrovnik, Krvaš, in order to regulate the trade relations between Bosnia and the Republic of Dubrovnik.

The intention is to remind every year of the importance of this document because it is one of the most important and first documents among the countries of this part of Europe on trade cooperation and freedom of movement of people and goods and the right to stay in Bosnia and security guaranteed by Bosnian Ban Kulin.

According to Director of the International Center for Peace, Ibrahim Spahić, this document is perceived in Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of what is a story of history, but it should be also binding for future generations so that these European values, which through the United Nations become world values, are a motivating factor for BiH's European integration.

“When someone has such a heritage as BiH has with the Ban Kulin Charter which testifies to specific diplomacy and state wisdom in decisions according to the interests of BiH citizens and neighbors, then it should be a lesson for neighbors that they must be open to each other and guarantee security, but also to have respect for those closest to you,” Spahić explained.

The anniversary of the Ban Kulin Charter was marked yesterday in front of the building of state institutions. Spahić emphasized that this place was chosen because the Assembly of the Republic of BiH adopted the Constitution in 1974, which enabled BiH to be declared an independent and sovereign state after the referendum.

The Charter of the Bosnian Ban Kulin is the oldest preserved Bosnian state document and one of the most important documents in the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the first diplomatic document issued by the ruler of Bosnia to the ruler of another state.
