UN Women in BiH - Start of campaign 'Why your money counts?'

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 30 (FENA) - UN Women in BiH has initiated the campaign "Why your money counts?" that has the goal to raise awareness on how all citizens, male and female, contribute to budgets, and should be able to use them equally.

The campaign features a video story about Sabina Krivdić, first woman owner of craft distillery „Malinica“ in BiH, owner of brand „Kraljica“, who also produces honey in the „Medni dućan“ shop in Visoko.

By using the incentives of the FBiH Employment Bureau for her agriculture company, Sabina built, researched and improved her business.

"Budget incentives have enabled me to have paid expenses for a year, and to direct all my efforts to develop and promote my business.  I think that systemic budget support, such as this one, is very important for any business. I invite all women entrepreneurs to follow public calls, because it is important for the budget to recognize our needs," said Sabina Krivdić.

Sabina's story shows how important it is for public services, such as budgets, to equally correspond to the needs of both women and men. That is the focus of UN Women in BiH work in the area of gender-responsive budgeting.

"Public funds that are invested in services should be distributed in a way to equally respond to the needs of women and men. Citizens should actively participate in this process and express their needs," said Irma Zulić, project coordinator at UN Women BiH.

UN Women in BiH invites the citizens to join the campaign that is taking place under the slogan „Your money for your own good“, by scanning the QR code on the promotional materials of the campaign which will be available in selected businesses throughout BiH, to watch the campaign video on YouTube, and respond to a short poll that will enable insight in understanding gender-responsive budgeting. Video story is also available on the social media profiles of UN Women in BiH.

This video is part of the series of four video stories developed as a part of the regional campaign on gender-responsive budgeting „Why your money counts?“ that was developed under the auspices of the UN Women regional office for Europe and Central Asia and the campaign „Ideas -  Rethink Challenges. Improve solutions.“

Continuing the work of UN Women on gender-responsive budgeting, yesterday a new four-year regional initiative „Transformative Financing for Gender Equality in the Western Balkans” was launched online. The goal of the initiative is to support governments of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo* and Serbia in integrating gender equality in policymaking and budget processes. High-level government representatives expressed their commitment to lead transformative financing and budgeting efforts towards gender equality.  The initiative is financially supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation (SIDA).

UN Women in BiH continues to work on gender-responsive budgeting with institutions across BiH as they seek to strengthen gender equality in policies, laws and budgets in a purposeful way, announced the UN Women in BiH.
