The 17th anniversary of Alija Izetbegović's death marked at Kovači cemetery

SARAJEVO, October 19 (FENA) - On the occasion of the 17th anniversary of the death of the first President of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Alija Izetbegović, the Sarajevo Canton Assembly Speaker Mirza Čelik and the SC Veterans' Affairs Minister, Hajrudin Grabovica laid flowers at his grave and the tombstone at the Kovači cemetery.

Flowers were laid by numerous delegations from the state, FBiH and lower levels of government in BiH, representatives of the diplomatic corps, veterans' associations and others.

Organized by the "Alija Izetbegović" Museum,  a solemn academy will be held tonight at 7 pm at the City Hall, which will include an exhibition with photographs, artifacts and documents from the private and political life of Alija Izetbegović.

Due to the current epidemiological situation, the number of visitors to this year's academy will be limited.

Alija Izetbegović was the first president of the internationally recognized state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the supreme commander of the Army of the Republic of BiH during the aggression on our country. He was born on August 8, 1925, in Bosanski Šamac, and died on October 19, 2003, in Sarajevo.
