Brkić takes part in a seminar on European integration processes in Dubrovnik

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 21 (FENA) - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Brkić participated in a seminar on European integration processes in Dubrovnik.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Brkić participated in the 22nd joint seminar on European integration processes for diplomats from Central and Southeast Europe, organized by the Hanns-Seidel Stiftung and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia on October 20 and 21, 2020 in Dubrovnik.

As part of the seminar, Deputy Brkić gave a presentation on "EU Enlargement: Myths and Realities". On that occasion, he emphasized that for Bosnia and Herzegovina, the prospect of EU enlargement to the countries of the Western Balkans may have started as a distant vision bordering on mythical possibilities, but that today the path to the EU is increasingly certain. He added that from the original six to 25 and eventually 27 member states, the EU was peacefully uniting Europe. He also pointed out that the European Union has become the largest peace project after generations of divisions and war, and assessed that a "myth" about Europe as a "kingdom of peace, justice and freedom" was born which, inevitably, created the problem of mythologizing Europe and all that EU enlargement could bring.

Regarding the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Deputy stressed that BiH, even after 20 years since the launch of the Stabilization and Association Process for Albania, BiH, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro in 1999, is still on the periphery of the EU, although we are in the heart of Europe. He also referred to the latest Report of the European Commission on BiH for 2020 and informed about the progress made in meeting 14 conditions from the Opinion of the European Commission. He added that reforms need a credible membership perspective and that it is extremely important to maintain our strong commitment to the European integration process, which is crucial for further progress on our path to the EU.

“The path is clearly delineated, the conditions are presented, and our commitment is underlined countless times. I am convinced that, with the help of EU institutions and member states, we will successfully deal with the challenges that lie ahead," concluded Deputy Minister Josip Brkić, announced the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH.
