Wimmer: ‘Outdooractive’ offers all the information on destinations in real-time

SARAJEVO, November 3 (FENA) - The 'Sarajevo Unlimited', as the first regional forum of innovation, entrepreneurship and technology, was created as a result of the work of the 'Networks' business community in Sarajevo. This year, it takes place on November 5 and 6, will host Hartmut Wimmer, founder and CEO of Outdooractive.

While studying construction, Wimmer founded an engineering firm in 1994, and after successfully completing several architectural challenges, he decided to focus on tourism infrastructure because he discovered many problems while traveling.

In an interview with FENA, he said he understood it was time to find a solution to gather all the necessary information and data in one place, and he founded the company Outdooractive in 2008.

"Since then, I have been striving to create the world's largest platform that simultaneously connects the community and all stakeholders in the tourism sector with state-of-the-art technology. Being a travel enthusiast myself, my goal is to build the world's largest virtual home for like-minded people who share their experiences and adventures," Wimmer explained.

This company, he notes, is creating a perfect platform for fans of traveling and staying outdoors with outstanding content, modern technology, useful information and uniting an increasingly growing tourism network in Europe and around the world.

"It is a place for browsing and daydreaming, inspiration and planning, a place to connect with others, through learning and sharing, as well as documenting and remembering. Outdooractive aims to unite all aspects of tourism from tours and destinations through accommodation, literature, weather conditions to meeting like-minded people," says Wimmer.

As one of the pioneers in the field, with more and more digital platforms on the subject, Wimmer says they are dealing with it believing in their strengths and solutions that they provide to customers as Outdooractive has been an expert in providing complete technology solutions for DMS for over 20 years.

They offer a wide range of mapping and networking content based on related data, creating a so-called “digital twin” reality for the best user experience.

By adding real-time data, such as current weather and other conditions, live data at winter destinations, avalanche warnings and bans on some activities, guests have the opportunity to be notified quickly and accurately.

In the company, they partner with clients, help them define strategies and measures to attract the right guests and digitally direct them towards their personal interests.

"On the one hand, Outdooractive guarantees broad media coverage through various channels, and on the other hand, it offers complete software solutions to optimize the guest experience by making information such as current conditions and suggestions for activities available in one system," says Wimmer.

At the Sarajevo Unlimited conference, Wimmer will speak on the topic "Tourism in the New Age - A Guide for Digital Visitors", and speaking for FENA, he referred to the challenges in tourism, especially since the coronavirus pandemic has stopped travels and digital sightseeing is increasingly being explored.

He noted that, while the tourism industry continues to face new challenges, tourism stakeholders are increasingly offering domestic tourism opportunities and Outdooractive has focused on providing even more data-based assistance and directing visitors, as well as helping destinations to avoid the crowding.

"Domestic tourism attracts a large number of visitors. Therefore, it is important that destinations are properly digitized, managed, analyzed and their content is distributed," noted Wimmer.

Therefore, he concludes, there is a need on both sides for their platforms as users need more digital data to explore the destinations of crowded cities, while destinations need to inform visitors about the current situation before guests embark on a trip.

During the previous years, the Sarajevo Unlimited forum gathered 10,156 participants, 220 start-ups were presented to investors and audiences in the region and the world, 252 speakers were guests who shared their inspiring experience in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship.

The Forum also hosted 14 keynote speakers from Google, Deutsche Telecom, BBC, Alibaba, Viber and Huawei, and was attended by 480 foreign delegations, government officials, universities, corporations, banks, insurance companies, technology parks and creative hubs.

This year's Sarajevo Unlimited is supported by: BH Telecom, MIBO komunikacije, NLB Bank, Science Park from Graz, ESP BH doo, Foreign Investment Council (FIC), German Development Agency-GIZ and many others.
