SARAJEVO, December 8 (FENA) - Slaven Kovačević, advisor to the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić, spoke on the occasion of the panel before the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress in which the policy of the new administration for the Balkan region was discussed.
"As our friends from the United States see it, ethnic policies are a problem because they obviously serve to enrich ethnic leaders to the detriment of the citizens of this country, because the so-called ethnic leaders use the current constitutional system to blockade state institutions until their personal interests are satisfied.
That is why they are creating an environment for the various forms of corruption and political influence to thrive on in order to maintain the current level of political power that allows them to constantly enrich themselves," said Kovačević.
He pointed out that such a situation is also used by some eastern countries, which skillfully use BiH's ethnic division policies and economic vulnerability to pursue their interests.
"That is why it is important that we enter into constitutional reforms as soon as possible in order to offer a new and better political system that prevents the current deviations within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We clearly need to move towards a civic concept in order to prevent ethnic policies from blocking the state and being the basis for various forms of corruption through political diversification.
Such a concept offers much more in achieving the rule of law and the fight against corruption, and in this regard, we expect the support of our friends from the United States and the EU," said Kovačević, an advisor to the member of the Presidency of BiH Željko Komšić.
